Job Summary

Bethel University invites applications for a full-time one-year position teaching courses in our Journalism program and serving as faculty advisor for the student newspaper. We are open to hiring an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor for this position. The range for an Assistant Professor is $55,599 - $70,043, Associate Professor is $62,927 - $84,168 and Full Professor is $77,265 - $95,904.

 

Responsibilities

● Teach four Journalism courses.
● Serve as faculty advisor for The Clarion student newspaper, employing journalistic and ethical standards.
● Direct the Johnson Center for Journalism & Communications for the 2025-2026 academic year, including collaboration with the Interim Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education, the English & Journalism Department Chair, and related donors, to facilitate restructuring of the journalism program at Bethel.
● Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the department and the discipline.
● Demonstrate commitment to teaching and scholarship within the context of a Christian university
● Continued involvement as a journalism professional.

Skills

● Ability and enthusiasm for teaching literature in a liberal arts university setting.
● Ability to advise and provide editorial leadership of a student publication.

Experience

● Record of teaching excellence preferred.
● Proven media experience in multiplatform storytelling preferred.

Education

MA in Journalism or related field, or a BA with significant professional experience required; PhD preferred.
